Neonatal Jaundice and Nursing Care

The Nursing Show
Newborns usually present with yellowish discoloration of the skin in the first few days of life. After a week or so, this discoloration disappears with the help of phototherapy or sunlight. However in some cases, jaundice is a symptom of an underlying disease or disorder and if not treated, the accumulation of bilirubin or the yellow pigment, will deposit into the brain and result to serious complications. In this week's episode of the nursing show, Jamie Davis, the podmedic, discusses nursing assessment, care and interventions for newborn jaundice. Also in the show are nurses in the news and links to resources for a better review of this week's tip.
