Nurses hold a special role when it comes to a patient's diet. To be able to meet the patient's nutritional needs, special diets are sometimes ordered for patients with certain illnesses or conditions. It is the role of the nurse to provide the food to the patient taking into consideration a number of factors affecting the shift in diet and the patient's ability to eat and to educate the patient in the importance of adherence to the prescribed diet. These, together with the most common special diets ordered are discussed in this week's episode of The Nursing Show. Also included are the latest nurses in the news and tip links for further review.
